I am visiting a middle school this Thursday and will be teaching concepts of bioengineering- this lovely video is ideal the middle school age or even late elementary school age. Enjoy! https://vimeo.com/60747882
Ebola: Great news- a potential vaccine!
Clinical trials have so far shown that an Ebola vaccine (Merck, Sharpe & Dohme- rVSV-ZEBOV) been efficacious and effective. The vaccine has received Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the FDA and PRIME status from the European Medicines Agency, meaning that its review will be expedited. Bioengineering Banter #4: A Nose Knows Best! A biomimetic replica of a dog's nose has been manufactured to enhance the "aerodynamic reach". This study was done with the hope that it may benefit "next-generation vapor samplers" for sniffing out explosives, narcotics, pathogens, or even cancer.
