Right under our nose!

With an increasing amount of bacterial strains developing antibiotic resistance and the development of new antibiotics having been few and far in between, any news of a promising new antibiotic is news worthy! The latest antibiotic was found right under (or in) our noses! A new report published this summer describes the discovery of a new antibiotic found in a nasal commensal bacterial species called Staphylococcus lugdunensis. The chemical antibiotic compound, called lugdunin, was even effective against MRSA!
